The finale of The Witcher season 3 was much-anticipated by fans of the fantasy show, but ultimately it proved to be a huge wasted opportunity.
Created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and based on the novels of Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher season 3 set up an epic finale with promises of magical battles and moments of joy for viewers. Unfortunately, the finale episode was almost entirely devoted to storylines and characters that had little relevance to the overall plot, leaving fans disappointed with the ending of the season.
The finale began with Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) and Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) attempting to protect the exiled Princess Cirilla (Freya Allan) from the infamous Nilfgaardian army. This was undoubtedly the most exciting aspect of the finale, as viewers witnessed Geralt in battle against the powerful forces of Nilfgaard. But despite these thrilling scenes, the plot soon shifted to focus on secondary characters and subplots that had little to do with Geralt’s, Yennefer’s or Cirilla’s adventures.
The finale of The Witcher season 3 also wasted an opportunity to properly explore the magical elements of the show. While there were some brief moments in which Geralt and Yennefer were shown using magical powers, the finale lacked any real excitement or tension. It simply felt like an extended version of the previous episodes, with minimal new information or story beats.
To make matters worse, the finale included a number of scenes and sequences that felt superfluous or unnecessary, such as a drawn-out conversation between Geralt and Yennefer or a strange scene in a prison. These scenes weakened the overall effect of the finale and undermined the carefully constructed plot set up earlier in the season.
Overall, the finale of The Witcher season 3 proved to be a huge missed opportunity. Despite some engaging battle scenes, the episode ultimately felt meandering and uneventful. With better pacing, more focus on Geralt’s and Yennefer’s arcs, and more exploration of the magical aspects of the show, The Witcher season 3 could have ended with a satisfying bang.
